Hypermonetisation

Today, we live in this capitalist, industrial, globalised, urbanised, post-modern and hyper-monetised world. The life style that we choose is essentially materialistic without giving the needed attention to the inner world. The cravings of the outer world is in a constant flux and happiness has become just a moment to enjoy with it.

As we all know that happiness is a state of mind and yet we crave happiness from outside world. We are aware that this happiness derived from external world is temporary, but yet we intend for this momentary feeling. Why do we get stuck in this never ending cycle even though we are aware? Maybe, perhaps we have not thought about it seriously as long as we can enjoy the momentary pleasure. The momentary pleasure gives a hike in the endorphin level and its impulsive. It vanishes away making us addicted to it. Even though we are aware of diminishing marginal utility where a favourite object over fed will lead to dampening of the desire, we are still not able to come out of the loop.

Monetisation of everything has further enabled materialisation. Pure raw emotions and feelings are also monetised today. Everything has been given a value and measured with respect to a created virtual standard. Who set these standards? Are these standards absolute? A careful analysis will reveal that everything is relative with respect to time, space and person. There is no such thing as the absolute truth or absolute false. Even the time is relative which we have created! So nothing in this universe is absolute.

Being humans, we have a reputation to maintain compared to other creatures by behaving humanely. What is this humaneness? Sometimes the things we do for others without any expectation in return will give us happiness. The attitude of having detachment over the goals but yet striving with full effort will give us happiness. The complete subjugation and surrender of the ego will give us happiness. The act of kindness with Prema(Desire+sacrifice) rising above the Kama(Desire) will give us happiness. A gesture of wishing good will for everyone(Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaha) will give us happiness. A gesture of nonviolence(ahimsa) will give us happiness. A pursuit of truth will give us happiness. All these happiness have a different dimension. It is neither serving nor oriented towards the self and definitely de-monetised! The happiness derived out of these acts are profound and enduring in nature and gives us a high morale ground. Are we missing many of these things in this hypermonetised world?
