Economic tussle between classes?

Traditionally when differentiation and privatisation of property was taking place, there were only two classes i.e. the bourgeoisie and proletariat (haves and have nots). Gradually capitalism took root along with industrialisation and increased the gap of separation aggravating the inequality. Slowly there was a need for a middle class in order to bridge the gap between the haves and have nots.

This group includes a vast number of people from diverse backgrounds ranging from teachers, doctors, scientists, managers, engineers, etc. to name a few. This class of people earned through their power of intellect. Today the numbers of the middle class have increased manifold times and includes a vast amount of population wherein again further differentiation has occurred and given rise to lower and upper middle class. Education has helped people to transit from the working class to the middle class. This transition has been smooth for some and rough for others.

Now let's look into the polity and the amount of attraction each class draws from the government. The haves are the ones with capital. They wield money power. The government does not dare to jeopardise with this class at least to some extent as their influence in making policy decisions are significant and governments need money to run the show. Next comes the have nots. These are the real vote banks of the government. In almost all the countries, all welfare programs are aimed at the have nots. The government needs to stay in power. Now in this power tussle between money and vote bank, where does the middle class fit in?

A careful analysis of most of the policy decisions taken by the governments around the world tend to the haves and the have nots. If the government introduces a subsidy in tax, usually it will be for the benefit of have nots. The haves have no problem in paying the tax and yet they tend to defect. The point here to be noted is that it is not wrong to tend to the have nots, but it is also not right to neglect the middle class. After all, this class has a huge contribution towards the GDP of the country. Moving further it is important that the governments identify and tend to the peculiar problems of the middle class like in health care, litigation, social security, quality of education, availability of jobs, etc.  and give an equitable share of benefits to everyone without discrimination on class basis in consonance with our constitution.
